It's All about the Pie on 3.14 Day
Some Star Trek fans may fondly recall how Mr. Spock stopped an evil entity that had taken over the Enterprise’s computer system, ordering it to “compute to the last digit the value of Pi.” We’re not going to go all technical on you in today’s Rumney Flats Blog, but we are focusing on March 14th this month which is, of course, Pi Day. To learn more about the originations of why we celebrate on 3.14, check out this Pi Day website. The important thing though is the pie, and we have a selection of both savory and sweet pie recipes to share. Try some of them this month! PS: If you don’t have time to bake, we’ve also included some local Revere, MA area venues where you can purchase pie.

Shepherd Pie — Beef and vegetables in a simple tomato sauce, topped with creamy mashed potatoes with cheddar cheese melted over the top. Can you say “hearty meal?” And, it’s still a pie, which makes it the perfect dinner for Pi Day. Who said pie was only for dessert?
Pecan Pie from The Pioneer Woman Cooks blog gives you step-by-step directions complete with pictures for this tasty treat. The commentary is delightful, too.

Turn a delicious candy bar into an even more delicious pie. We really love the Oreo crust and the chocolate topping in this Almond Joy Pie. Make the coconut filling by combining cornstarch, milk, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, flaked coconut, vanilla extract, and coconut extract.
