Rumney Flats Blog, Revere, MA Take stock of what's in your apartment's kitchen cupboards and then get organized with tips from today's post about creating the perfect pantry.

Welcome back to the Rumney Flats Blog. Last time we shared some recipes for celebrating Pi Day, and this month we’re following up by moving it to a post about your kitchen. Get ready to organize your kitchen supplies this month.

In today’s modern apartment, your pantry can simply be the way you set up storage areas in your kitchen with the staples you like keep on hand.

Organize Your Kitchen Using Centers

One way to organize your kitchen is to set up centers. For example, if you spend a lot of time baking, create a baking center where you store all the things you routinely use for baking. Other centers you may want to consider creating could be a snack center, a breakfast center, or even a drink center. This makes it easy to keep things organized and easy to find.

Level Up

Store seldom-used, lightweight items on the upper shelves, and store heavier items on the lower shelves. Reserve the mid-level shelving for items you use most often. Invest in a few uniformly shaped containers. They will stack easily and give you more bang for your storage-space buck. Label your containers so you will be able to quickly identify the contents.

Stock It Up

Make sure your apartment kitchen is always stocked. Set aside money in your budget each month for restocking your pantry. That way you will be able to take advantage when items you use all the time go on sale and will be able to ensure you won’t run out of what you regularly use. Kitchn has a great list of items you should keep in your kitchen. When you’ve got all the essentials, you’ll be able to cook and bake without having to run to the store last-minute to get a ton of ingredients. Rotate your food items, using the oldest first.

Use an App

Keep track of what you need to pick up at the grocery store by using one of these handy apps. We especially like the Out of Milk app (available for both Android and iOS) because with it you can include an ongoing home pantry list you’ll always have with you. Flipp is another app to check out. Find out what’s on sale and where, saving you money in the process.
