Create the Perfect Pumpkin for Your Revere Apartment
This month the Rumney Flats Blog is bringing members of our apartment community all things pumpkin — whether it’s decorating with them or eating them, we’ve got you covered. Head out to your favorite Revere area farmer’s market or grocery store and pick up some pumpkins and get ready to be creative.
Use thumbtacks to create all sorts of fun designs on your pumpkin. Just be careful not to poke your fingers by accident. Learn how to make a thumbtack spiderweb in your pumpkin (using the link above) with the tutorial from DIY Network. All you will need is a pumpkin and some silver thumbtacks, or whatever color you want.
Cover your pumpkin in black chalkboard paint and decorate as you please with chalkboard markers. The best part is you can erase it just like a chalkboard and create a brand new design or image! What you will need: pumpkins or gourds of any size, black chalkboard spray, a chalkboard marker, masking tape, and newspaper to protect your surface.
Turn your pumpkin into a porcupine in just a few simple steps! All you will need is a hollowed out pumpkin, a drill, and some battery operated white holiday lights. The above link takes you to the tutorial on Martha Stewart’s blog. Unlike real porcupines, these pumpkin porcupines are safe to touch.
These pumpkin owls are absolutely adorable and super simple to make! What you will need: a white pumpkin, pencil for tracing shapes before cutting, carving knife, hot-glue gun and hot-melt adhesive, sunflower seeds (in shells), two crafts sticks and a candle or battery-operated light.
Need something sweet to snack on? We think you should make these pumpkin spice truffles. These truffles taste great, with the perfect combination of chocolate, graham crackers, and pumpkin filling.
Set aside some time for baking a classic pumpkin cheesecake to start off your celebrations. It’s the kind you have to bake and chill, but the effort will be worth it. The author of this recipe says this is the perfect pumpkin cheesecake recipe for even the biggest pumpkin snob. Try it out and see for yourself!
We hope everyone here at Rumney Flats enjoys a pumpkin-filled October! What are your favorite ways to use pumpkins? Let us know in the comments. Have fun celebrating Halloween here in Massachusetts.
